As most of you know we had to upgrade back in April to continue to be
able to download. I don't have a problem buying the upgrade but when
they release a new version, 2006, a few months later I have to draw the
line. I'm sure they made a bundel on the forced upgrade to a soon to be
obsolete version.
I just wanted everyone to remember this the net time you think about
buying Intuit products
Pissed off and pissed on.

Q2005 is $15 on EBAY, Q2006 seems to sell for ~$35. I plan to stay a
year behind. It's well worth $15 a year. YMMV

Huh????????
You were surprised that Intuit released a new version in August? Where have
you been for the past decade or so???
Do us all a favor and switch to Money. Then check back in a year or two and
let us know how well MS treated you...................

Intuit didn't *force* you to upgrade in April. You chose to hold off on
upgrades until their sunset policy got you ... on an old version. Since you
clearly don't mind using old versions of Quicken, why do you suddenly want
to upgrade to Q2006? Do what the rest of us do. Time your upgrades so you
don't have to buy more than one version in a given year. And don't blame
Intuit for your own blunder.
Regards,
Margaret

It seems that most of you 'just don't quite understand' the business
logic used in their sunset policy and timing of releasing a new
version.
I was not forced to upgrade. If I wanted to continue downloading
updates to a dozen or more accounts without a few months of
interruptions I had no choice but to buy a version that was to be
updated a few months later.

Umm, check your original post. "Forced" was your word.... Each Quicken
version has three years before "sunset." Plan accordingly next time.

I'm not sure that Intuit *ever* said anything about Sunsetting,
prior to the 2005 event. If they did, they sure didn't spell it
out.

They said a *lot* about sunsetting. Both on their web site and
in emails to users.
Oh! Could the op have been a user that thought registering was
a bad thing to do? Tsk, tsk.
To say nothing of the fact that online access could have been
maintained for a few dollars by buying a newer version from
eBay.
Op has no legitimate complaint. I have zero sympathy (And op's
b.s. about Intuit making money by allegedly tricking users, puts
op in the category of ignorant, insulting, jerk).

Before 2004 (the year)?
I got, from Margaret's post, that Intuit gives us three years
of "heads up." While they do it, now, I must've slept through
the 2001/2002 announcement.

Oh, puleeeeezzzzeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!! It's you that is clueless!!!
You have 3 years notice of the sunset policy, 10+ years of a history of
upgrades in August and cheap prices on e-bay. "A few months...." is
bullshit........
Get your head out of your ass and look around you for a change......
Oh, by the way.................. PLONK!!!

My, posters in this newsgroup certainly have taken a beligerent turn
since I used to frequent it previously...
I run Q2003, duly registered. I receive offers to upgrade each year,
but Quicken has NEVER sent me any word (letter or e-mail or download
message) saying that Q2003 will be "sunsetted" in April of next year. I
gather that it will be. Additionally, I never have occasion to visit
the Quicken web site, so that is little excuse either. [Even now I can
find no reference to a Q2003 sunset date on their web site.] The only
way I learned about sunsetting at all is via this newsgroup, which IMO
probably serves less than 5% of the total Quicken user population.
If Intuit doesn't tell me that I need to buy Q2006 to continue
electronic bank transactions until their product has only 3 months of
life left before the next upgrade when they could have told me when it
had 12 months, then I think the original complaint is valid.

You say, no word anywhere about when Q2003 will be sunsetted ...
seems you're concerns amount to jumping the gun a bit. As far
as I'm concerned, they are only obliged to notify you when their
decision is final.
Intuit has been asked to postpone the month of sunsetting to a
bit later in the year; perhaps they will do that. Maybe they
will even have the sunset coincide with the release of a new
version of Quicken.
When sunsetting occurs, you need only upgrade to the next
version, not the newest version, to continue online service.
What is sacrosinct about 12 months; what is the serious harm in
only 3 months notice? What is an objective standard for this
information.
Anyone who claims that not having some minimum advance notice on
sunsetting is harmful, but who refuses to seek out such
information, has no one but themselves to blame.
Finally, you not only need to be registered, but Intuit needs
your current email address, and you need to make sure your spam
filter(s) don't prevent you from seeing any email from them.
[I'm sure none of that pertains to you, but it is for anyone who
might not have thought it important to maintain a channel of
communications with Intuit ... there are plenty here who
adamantly refuse to do so. "Damn, that hole in my foot hurts"].

John - you might consider using tinyurl.com - their link for the above is:

(a little shorter) and there's no redirect advertisement panel in the

I do remember with 98, my bank no longer supported the download, or was it
quicken, I upgraded to 2004. I would like to preview 2006. I tried to
install thinking it would parallel 2004. WOW! it uninstalled it. Launch
2006 and goes to purchase page. I was able to uninstall and reinstall my
2004 but what a hassle.

Ah, clearly one of the smart ones, who backed-up his data before
installing an update/upgrade!
