I am using qb2002 and it has lost the ability to send invoices by e-mail or
save them as pdf. Clicking on the e-mail button just does nothing and
Outlook is not started. Any pointers?

In regards to sending email:
2002 doesn't use Outlook or any other external email client to send email,
instead, it sends email directly through QuickBooks using Intuit's email
servers. Bad thing here is that 2002 has already been sunsetted so you
probably can't use Intuit's servers for sending email any longer.

An option here is to install something like pdf995 http://www.pdf995.com and
then you could print to that driver for creating pdfs of your Invoices or
whatever and then use your own email program to send them out manually.
This should work pretty well as long as you aren't doing high volume
emailing.

In regards to saving to pdf:
Not sure why you can no longer save to pdf ...did you recently install a
piece of software that set up it's own print-to-file driver? I've seen a
few of these types of drivers cause problems. Did it ever work for you?

Intuit's driver is called: Intuit Internal Printer.

You could, delete out the 'Intuit Internal Printer', from the printer folder
on your computer and then reinstall it. Here's how:
http://search.intuit.com/KanisaSupportSite/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=http--wwwquickbookscom-support-faqs-qbw2003-289534html&sliceId=&dialogID=12928736

Make sure you rename the Amyuni Print driver back to "Intuit Internal
Printer". It won't work otherwise. If you still have problems after
reinstalling Intuit's printer driver - open it up and check to see which
port it's on. It needs to be on LPT1. If it's not on LPT1 it'll have
problems.

From my understanding, QuickBooks 2005's version of the pdf printer driver
works much better (plays nicer with other print to file drivers *LPT1 is no
longer required*, and it doesn't have as many issues within the program).
It uses a newer version of Amyuni's driver is also my understanding.

Hope that helps.

In Canada and some other countries QuickBooks uses the default email
client and email server, it does NOT use an Intuit server.
Nevertheless at least one Canadian user said that she is no longer
able to send email from QuickBooks. I don't have an answer, but want
to clarify that such problems in Canada and other countries may have
different causes and solutions from the US - though of course the use
of Acrobat itself or a 3rd-party PDF utility is a potential solution
for all.

I noticed the same thing with QB 2003 CAN. I even have Adobe installed. I
cannot use Adobe to print ANYTHING from QB since January or so of this year.
Anyone got the scoop?

BTW, I ended up downloading one of the free PDF drivers JUST to print PDF's
from QB...

I didn't see the OP's .uk email address. In my post I was speaking strictly
about the U.S. version of 2002. My bad.

When was the last time you re-booted - a total re-boot that is, power
off the PC? When you click the email button QB must load internal
processes that enable Outlook to start. But if the memory is
significanlty fragmented with TSR's (Terminate and Stay Resident
modules) there may not be enough contiguous memory to load the
neccessary applications modules.

I have no problems emailing invoices from QB 2003 Premier Canadian. Until
January's QB update, I was able to use Adobe 4 through 6 to print ANY
QB paper to .PDF format. Now I cannot. No matter which version of Adobe I
install. Now, I cannot print to .PDF statements or purchase orders or
estimates any more. I had to download someone else's .PDF driver...

What the heck!?? Why did QB suddenly not acknowledge Adobe as a valid
printer after 18 months or more of using 2002 and 2003 Canadian versions?

Anyone care to comment?

Also, I have found that things work much more smoothly for emailing directly
from QB if your default email client is already open.
