I've had this for awhile and have been happy with it. Unfortunately, in the last
2 months it's begun doing something a bit bizarre. When I go to scan an image,
the pre-scan will look just fine but when I do the actual scan there will be small
white spots (speckles?) randomly all over the picture. I've cleaned the glass
thoroughly so I know it's not that (and as I said, it's random, they're not always
in the same places). I had someone suggest it could be the _scanning_ software
(as opposed to Image Editor, PhotoShop, or other editing software -- it happens no
matter which one I'm sending the image to). I'm using the HP scanning software
that came with it. Any ideas on how I could solve this?

Thanks for your help.

I just discovered a fix for the problem mentioned in your post. (I
have an HP psc 2210xi AiO.)

I was able to eliminate speckles, as well as a lintly book and a dot
pattern by going into Micrografx Picture Publisher 6.0. I opened the
problem image and clicked on "Image" and selected
"Effects" and then under "Photographic" chose
"Remove Pattern". I repeated this procedure once more to
be sure the photo was completely clean.

Any photo editing programming with a pattern removal utility should
work as well. Hope this works for you and all users with HP
scanners.

Best!
