View Full Version : Long delay before memory check

Recently my computer started a one minute delay during boot up. This
occurs at the beginning of the process, before the memory check, when
the "Press Delete" to enter BIOS setup message shows. The time is
almost exactly one minute. After that time, the boot is normal. The
only time this does not happen is if there was a system crash and it
reboots by itself. A selected reboot or a cold boot both have the
delay.
My system is a AMD 2800+, ASUS motherboard, BIOS: Phoenix Technologies,
LTD ASUS A7N8X-E Deluxe ACPI BIOS Rev 1011 05/20/2004, 1.5 GB RAM,
Windows XP Pro with SP2, 3 hard drives with lots of free space, FAT32
system.

Any suggestions would be welcome.

Sounds like maybe one of the hard drives is taking a long time to
initialize. That might either indicate that your power supply isn't
powerful enough, or perhaps something going wrong inside one of the
HDs. Have you got your SMART feature turned on in the BIOS?
