View Full Version : Confused about placeholder transactions

I recently reluctantly upgraded from Q2002D to Q2004D.
Placeholder transactions in my investment accounts are acting strangely.
I have a Smith Barney account in which cash is swept into bank deposits.
The bank deposits are treated as a security which always has a $1 share
price. Downloads from SB don't include these sweeps, so when they occur,
I always get a placeholder transaction for the swept amount instead of
the "Bought" transaction I should show for $1/share. No big deal.
But after I enter the transaction data so the placeholder becomes a real
"Bought" transaction, there is a problem: the cash balance in my account
does not decrease. There is "N/A" in the "Cash Amt" column instead of
the correct amount, and I can't find any way to fix it.
What am I doing wrong or misunderstanding, and what is the right thing
to do?
Thanks,
-- Bob
