My wife and I both have IRAs with Prudential Financial. Both are invested in
Prudential's SP Growth Fund. I set up two accounts, one called My
Prudential, the other called Her Prudential. In My Prudential, I entered my
shares in the SP Growth fund, and it set everything up ok. When I tried to
enter her shares in Her Prudential in SP Growth, Quicken tells me that that
security is already created. How can I set these two accounts up so they are
separate?

It's Q 2005, BTW.

What specific steps led to the error message? Did this occur
during new account setup? Enter Transactions?

Are you trying to set up the same security in your wife's account as a NEW
security (which is not correct, since you already set up the security in
YOUR account)?
You do need to set up two accounts, but only one instance of the security,
since it is the same (Albeit different lots) in two different accounts.

Check out your methodology.

When you create an account it is within a single file. All accounts share
the same set of securities. There is only one set of prices and symbols. You
only need to create a new security once. After that, any new account will
see the security and use the security price list.

I have a similar situation w.r.t my wife and I we both have ROTH IRA's at
the same brokerage and they share one or more securities. I have no problems
with a single security/symbol that both use.

If you *really* feel the need for separate securities, you will have to
create a new name & symbol. I had to do that once because of an employee
stock plan. However, you won't be able to automatically update the bogus
security. An alternative would be to create a new Q file for each of you.
This would prevent either from sharing data with the other. But it makes
managing things unnecessarily complicated.....

I think what you want to do is set up her account and add shares of an
existing security vs. creating a new one just for her account.
