My brother has started a trucking company. He is looking for a software
that would allow him to track his business' financial and operational
data. He is looking at Quicken Deluxe, Quicken Pro and Quicken
Premier. Quicken Pro seems to be more tax oriented that the others.
Is this the right read.

What are the prices of each of these products? My opinion is that if
the higher end product is only $20 higher give or take and assuming it
has all of the features of the lower version, then he should buy the
higher version.

If Quicken is not the right product, do any of you recommend something
else for him to consider.

Thank you.

IMHO, the price of the software should be the least of his considerations.
Assuming that this is a real company, incorporated with assets, employees,
payroll and billing, it's almost for certain that he should be using a
"real" accounting package. He should assess (with an accountant) the needs
of his company w.r.t. finances and from that identify the software that will
do what he needs. Not the other way around.... I would assume that in the
grand scheme of things, the cost accounting software will pale compared to
the other costs in starting up and running a trucking firm.

One thing he should also take into account will be the ongoing software
costs. There may be annual costs like tax tables, upgrades, etc. that need
to be factored into the total costs of the package.

Thanks for your responses.

His business is a sole proprietorship. Also, my brother is not a
sophisticated user. I think Peachtree may be too heavy duty for him,
based on reviews that I read, they indicate that Peachtree is best for
savvy users.

Other Questions / Info:
There are no employees, but there are contractors. There is no
inventory. His key asset is the truck.

Is QuickBooks an Intuit product?

Is Quicken Home & Business, part of the Quicken Premier set?
