Hi all.

New to this forum and I apologise in advance for asking a question
that I know will have been asked many times before. Here in the UK
Quicken have announced that they are pulling out of the UK market and
will support 'some' Quicken products until January 2006 and then cease
all support - my product is not supported even now (Quicken 98 Deluxe)
but I guess this is not unreasonable given its age but it works very
well.

I've thought about using Microsoft Money and downloaded a trial
version that attempted to convert my Quicken files for use in
Microsoft Money but at the end of the conversion process it simply
said something along the lines of 'your Quicken files could not be
converted" - strange ?

I've been using my Quicken program for many years and for us it does
everything we need so I'm tempted to stick with Quicken although if I
could find a way of successfully converting my files to Microsoft
Money I would consider it.

My problem is that I have just put together a 'new' high speed PC and
wanted to transfer my Quicken 98 software to it. I have loaded the
original software package onto the machine and run it and transferred
my data files from the 'old' pc. The problem is of course that I can
only use the software for a limited number of times before it needs to
be registered - but I CANT -re-register the software because the UK
support telephone numbers/WWW site no longer seem to be active. My
copy is a legitimate copy bought and registered to me but I appear to
have no way of transferring the software successfully to my new pc
because of this problem. All I have is the software disk and serial
number (I originally registered the software online way back in 1998
!).

Does anyone know of any way of transferring my software etc and
getting it to work sucessfully on my new pc ? I would have thought
this was quite a common thing for users to want to do as they upgrade
their machines ?

Apologies for the 'ramble' ! Regards, yt.

Not certain about this - it's a while since I upgraded from 98 to 2000
(which is fine for me as I don't want downloads), but I *think* you need to
either copy the quicken.ini file from your old PC *or* there is a
registration number in the ini file which you need to enter into the ini
file which is created when you load Q98 onto the new PC.

Hopefully someone with a better memory than me will be along soon!

BTW do you not get any Y2K issues?

ISTR things like scheuled transaction dates were a bit iffy.

Regards

Rob

Hi yt

I posted the same Query on the same day! As a result of reading Robs reply
I investigated the Quicken.ini file in the Windows folder on each machine by
opening in Notepad. Suggest you print out both lists and compare them. You
will find about 9 items which differ. Modify the ini file on the new
machine to give the old settings. You will have toadd 2 extra lines in the
[Registration] section, one for CustomerNumber and one for
RegisteredVersion. Then ,MOST importantly, click on FILE ans then SAVE for
the alterations to take effect. I did this in 10 mins and everything seems
to be OK.
