View Full Version : Clue to Download Matching Problems
The Streets

I've been frustrated in the past with downloaded transactions
not matching an obvious choice (eg. same date, same amount,
same payee).
Today I *discovered* one reason why they don't match ...
I often copy and paste a previous transaction, especially if it has
a split that I want to re-use. What I learned today is that copying
a transaction also copies the original transactions Posting Date.
So, the copied entry appears to have already been posted and thus
not a match candidate. Viola!

Some observations:
1. When you copy the transaction, are you also copying the Reconcile flag?
If so, wouldn't deleting it solve your problem?
2. Why not just turn on autocomplete? When you enter the first few
characters of the payee, Quicken will find the previous transaction for that
name, including all splits.
3. Voila! It's nice to see you can play the viola.

I clear the Reconcile flag before Enter-ing the copied transaction, so that
is
not sufficient to make matching work.
I also tried removing the check mark from Downloaded Transaction. That
also was not sufficient.
What does work is both of the above and clearing the Posting Date field.

Fine if the previous transaction is the one I want. Often it is several
transactions
back.

Heh! Heh!

How does one access the Posting Date field?

Right click transaction
Press & hold Ctrl key
Click on 'Copy Transaction'

I can do you one better. I've had Q2005 (just today, actually) miss one
with the same *CHECK NUMBER*.
It gets better. The *real* matching transaction (the one that Q2005
didn't pick) was unreconciled and uncleared *and* it didn't even show
up in the list when I tried to "Match Manually". So, my only solution
was to create the downloaded one as new and then go delete the old one.
So, I did that... and, for the first time ever, Quicken didn't even
complain about duplicate check numbers!
My distrust of Quicken is increasing rapidly. I'm having to take a hard
look at everything it tries to match now. More than half of the time,
it seems, it will opt *against* matching an uncleared item with the
same payee, amount, and date for another cleared/reconciled one with
same payee, amount and dated two months ago. Sheesh.
