I would like to be able to enter xactions as they occur, say I write a check
I enter it in Quicken (well really pocket quicken then sync...). Then when I
download from my bank, I want the open financial exchange download to match
the transaction up rather than adding the check twice. I would like it if it
marked the xaction cleared.
I just started so I cannot test this, and I cannot find this level of detail
in the help file. Does anyone know whether any attempt to reconcile is done
when you download or does it just take what the bank sends and whack ito in?
Thanks!

When you download transactions, Quicken will usually match transactions
you already have. With checks, the dates may be different, your being
the date you entered it, the banks the date they cleared it; however, it
should be able to match based on the amount and the check number.
The only problem I ever had with matching was with certain types of
investment transaction (e.g. a stock split, downloaded transaction is
simply a SharesIn type, which does match the StockSplit I entered).

If the downloaded transaction says 'matched' it probably is. If it says
'new' then it isn't matched. I think on the downloaded transactions window
you can select edit, match manually for both types. You then can select the
matching transaction. You may have to double click the downloaded
transaction to get the edit boxes.
