Being new to Quicken 2005, I'm having trouble making a simple transfer. I
want to sell x number of shares from one security to buy x another security
in the same account. The buy x came up ok but the sale is treated like a
cash sale and now I have extra cash in the account making it look like I
have more assets than I really do.

Where did I make my mistake? Thanks

Roy

If you sold X shares A for a total of (for example) $1234.56, then bought Y
shares B for the same amount, $1234.56, then you should indeed not have any
left over cash. Please note that the price per share does *NOT* play any
role here. In fact, it is likely that the value of your holdings after
these 2 transactions is less than before, due to commissions for the sell
*and*/or buy Txs).

If you didn't make a typo (DAMHIKT - www.acronymfinder.com), and only
entered numbers of shares and total prices (not per share prices), Quicken
should show the correct data.

Did you really by the same number of shares as you sold? Were they
exactly the same price? Seems unlikely.

I use premier Q .
Try clicking on the account under 'Investing Center'.
Click on the transaction tab above the account.
Double click your sell transaction.
A new window will pop up.
In the 'Record proceeds?' box is 'To this account's cash balance' checked?
Close it if so and go to the buy transaction and do the same steps.
It should be checked in the 'From this account's cash balance'.

Thanks Terry and to all of you for your help. Terry's solution did the
trick. I don't know where the "Bought X" option came from originally but
all is well now.
