As far as I know, you don't. You have to modify the Memorized
transaction to change its amount to zero.

Is this some change in Q06? It works for me in Q05. I simply memorize the
transaction before entering an amount. This is true whether it is a simple
amount or multiple entries in splits (all zero value).
But yes, if I memorize the transaction /after/ entering the amount, then you
need to manually edit the memorized transaction entry.

I edit the memorized transaction. Set the amount to 0.00 and LOCK it so
it won't change. This works in Q04D and Q05P.

Goodness. Memorizing a transaction that has a zero amount is
not telling Quicken "to leave the dollar amount blank": Quicken
is memorizing the (zero) amount just like it memorizes the (zero
or non-zero) amount of any other transaction you memorize. I
thought it unnecessary to state the obvious.
But yes, if I memorize the transaction /after/ entering the amount, then you need to manually edit the memorized transaction entry.

I think the OP is stating that memorizing the transaction before entering
an amount works on Q05 (probably by memorizing a zero amount as JP points
out) and it doesn't in Q06, and he would like to know whether it is
possible to do it in Q06.

Even though I have gotten numerous advertisements from Intuit to upgrade to Q06,
I have refrained from doing so. Why? The biggest reason is worry about whether
it is stable and robust. Posts in this newsgroup have been a big influence in
this regard, with people complaining of both (apparent) bugs and changes in
behavior.
I wanted to upgrade, but not if what the people of this newsgroup say is true.

I definitely would not have guessed that was the meaning of the
original post. If one memorizes a transaction that has no
amount entered ... what amount would Quicken memorize instead of
zero? Oh well; I think the question is academic because Q2006
does memorize transactions that have no amount entered, with a
zero amount, just as Q2005 does.

If one based the decision on upgrading solely on complaints in this NG, no
one would ever upgrade....
