Hello,

Here at work we are using CM/Synergy for configuration management. Very
well, but the only thing I dislike is that the client leaves two log
files in my home directory: "ccm_eng.log" and "ccm_ui.log". Does anyone
know whether a) these files can be stored on a different location? b)
logging can be disabled, so the files do not appear?

I've searched the synergy web site, googled the web and searched the
newsgroups, but could not find anything on synergy and logging or log
file locations.

Any help would be appreciated.

Regards,
Jeroen Kouwer

Hi,

a) These files are stored in the location you supply when
starting up CMSynergy, as "Home Directory" field
in the Client Information part.
If you start CMSynergy using a command file (e.g.
for nightly reconfigures) then you can supply the
Home Directory in the "ccm start" command as
option /home.

b) I have not yet found how to turn logging off.
and I would not like to turn it off because the ccm_ui.log
file saved me many times in analyising usererrors or
unexpected behaviour.

Thanks for replying, but now I see I left out some inportent
information:

CM/Synergy version is 6.3.3285 and it is running on Solaris 9 (SunOS
5.9)

This version does not support the "/home" option (too bad...)

You could always get /some/ satisfaction by symlinking them to /dev/null, I
suppose ;-)

Hello Jeroen,

in Unix you can use the environment variables CCM_UILOG and CCM_ENGLOG to
specify location and name, i.e. (assuming ksh or bash)

export CCM_UILOG=/tmp/ccm_ui.log
export CCM_ENGLOG=/tmp/ccm_eng.log

will place both logfiles in /tmp. You may choose other locations and names.
I know no way to disable the logging and, as Reijer pointed out, it is a bad
idea.

Hope this helps.

Frank

Look in ccm.ini, which is also in your home dir, as far as I remember.
Most defaults can be controlled from there.

Hello Frank,

I did not want logging to be disabled per sé, I just dit not want them
to appear in my home directory. And now they are stored at the location
I want them to appear: The environment variables did the trick.

Thank you very much!

You can also edit your ccm.ini (.ccm.ini on UNIX) file and change the home
directory location.

Example:

[UNIX information]
Home = c:\logs
