software. I uninstalled, and then installed the old s/w from cd-rom, and
that cured the problem.
I've now got an xp machine...I just plugged the webcam in, no software, and
it worked fine.

news:g0GQa.5524$Ly2.1033434@cletus.bright.net... I've had this Logitech USB cam for a couple of years now,I had it
connected to my old comp and it ran fine with WIN98. When I got my new comp with WINXP I didn't connect the camera for about 6 months.I finally connected it about a month ago to use with Yahoo IM and
it worked fine at that time. The other day I connected it again and I was prompted to d/l updated
drivers and software, which I did. After I installed the program and connected the camera a Windows error prompt said "a problem occurred during hardware installation, your new hardware may not function properly".I uninstalled and reinstalled the SW & HW and I still get the same error prompt. I thought maybe it was the USB root hub but I have a USB scanner which
runs perfectly through the same USB port that the cam gets connected to and I just had my Sony Digital Handycam running through the same port yesterday. Oh,I've also gotten an error prompt that says the HW (cam) needs to be replaced and a prompt that says cannot start HW Code 10,whatever that
means. I'm stumped, any suggestions on how to remedy this problem?,or should I
just buy a new cam? TIA, -Doug
