View Full Version : D-Link DCS-2000 Get it to work?

Bought the thing and tried for several hours to get it to work. Nothing!
My Netgear router would assign it an IP address, but when I would go to
restart the IP Installer Wizard, I'd get a WinSock error: 10013. Tried
unblocking as many ports as I could think of, but could not get past this
error. Tried calling D-Link technical support, but that was a waste of
time. Talking to D-Link tech support sounds like you are talking via two
coffee cans and a shoelace, that's how bad the sound quality of their
telephone system is. The guy could hardly understand a word I was saying.
Had no idea what I was talking about when I mentioned the Winsock error.
So I finally gave up, packed it all up real nice, and returned it to the
store for a refund. And here's an interesting observation. A few days
later I returned to the store, and checked out the area where they put
these cameras. It looks like all the cameras were pulled from the shelf.
Too many customer returns? I really liked the feature of a camera that
communicates via ether, and could record the video to disk. But perhaps
this product is just too immature, and more bugs need to be worked out?
Never even go to see what kind of video quality the thing delivers.
Perhaps another day....

Reports are that the video quality is poor.
