View Full Version : Toolbars in ACAD2004

After loading up ACAD2004, I just installed our custom menu (which has
worked in every version since 9 with some tweaks here and there) in
ACAD2004 and all the toolbar icons have become question marks inside
of clouds. They still represent what they are supposed to, but there
are no pictures. Is this a problem anyone else has encountered?

Sounds like the icons you need are not in the support path
(tools/options/files>). You may have to unload then reload your menu to
get Autocad to read the files.
Be aware that the icon size changed, so you icons will be stretched to
fit. You may want or need to rework the icons. Also, R2004 uses full
color icons, not 16 color, so you may or may not be OK with the way your
icons look next to theirs.
Since I'm not enough of a graphic artist to update my icons to full
color, I changed the R2004 icons back to the R2002 versions. Easy in
the toolbars, not so easy in the file open dialog, but it makes
everything look uniform. I also couldn't tell what a lot of the new
icons were because they tend to be artistic blobs in pastels.
Just my opinion. YMMV.

Dear Martin
Could you please share how did you switch your
2004 ACAD back to 2002 icons.
I've got a 2004 ACAD but could not start use it
just because of it sophisticated icons and still use 2002.
I was trying to change icons in 2004 but it treats original
and my own icons its own way. The perfect 2002 icons gets
blurred. Guess it because 2004 has now 16X16 pixels per icon
instead of 16X15 like used to be.
I am just agree the 2004 might got better but I wanna
see the guy who put there those f-ing icons

First I made new icons to get them to the new size. I used
PixelToolbox, then converted to bitmaps with icon2bmp. Both
PixelToolbox and icon2bmp were downloaded. You may not need to convert
to bitmaps -- some versions of AutoCad can use icon files in the menu files.
For the dialogs, I used ResHacker to pull the necessary icons out of
2002, edited with PixelToolbox, then used ResHacker again to overwrite
the icons in 2004. You have to go through the .dll files to find the
bitmaps. The ones I changed (all are .bmp files) are: 201, 202, 203,
204, 205, 206, 207, 208, 209, 210, 211, 212, 300, 301, 302,
add_to_favorites, look_in_favorites, nav_delete, nav_newfolder,
nav_previous, nav_uponedir, and nav_web.
At least that's what I recall -- it's been a while.

To convert your ACAD 2002 custom icon BMPs to 2004, add a line of pixels
along the bottom to make them 16x16. Then they will show as they did in ACAD
2002. For your toolbars that use standard icons, change ICON_16 to RCDATA_16
in the menu, then the ACAD 2004 icons will display.
