Help!
3D Woes
How do you modify a solid that has already been drawn?
For example, you draw (or seek to modify a block someone else has
drawn) a molding 3ft and you need it 2ft. I am having 0 success at
modifying the solid in any way once its been drawn.
I really need someone's help. Please help!
I have searched high and low, consulted books, etc. But I am coming
up short. Perhaps its due to my being a newbie to AutoCAD (2 months).
I am using AutoCAD 2004. I am earning while learning, but I've got to
kick it up a notch--soon --you know?
Thank you for any help you can throw my way,
Derek

Start with SLICE.
Look up SOLID EDITING in HELP.

AutoCAD has a completely different set of editing commands for
solids, which is frustrating. When you are looking at a rectangular
object, there is no way to know if it is a polyface mesh or an ACIS
solid (3d-solid). The problems start when you are editing an object
with a mixture of the two kinds of 3-d objects. A 3D solid will move
if any part of it is included with a stretch, and it will not stretch.
Here is a site that has a nice video about solid editing. Their
product is one that examines the solids and creates a list of pieces
with their dimensions. But their video is nicely done and does show
some of the basics of solid editing.

Try the solidedit command, which will let you move (among other options)
faces. In solidedit, select the face mode and then the move option. Then
select the face or faces which defines the end of the molding and move it 1
foot and the solid will then shorten by that foot.
