Why does the text disassociate itself from the leader when i copy and paste it.
Is it a system variable item?

I am on version 2002. That is just the way the program works, there
is no variable to change this.

If you copy text and the leader, then I think the copied leader and
copied text will stay associated with each other.

Dimensions or Quick Leader?

Which "it". Using 2002, I find that if I copy and paste a leader and its
text, associations are maintained. If I copy just the text, there is no
sensical association and none is created. If I copy just the leader, the
text is pasted also with association.

Not sure what you are doing. The only thing I can make happen that sounds
like what you are describing isn't a problem.
