Just wondering about opinions as to which program is better for which
job(s). Any thoughts out there?

PhotoPaint is pretty good a general bitmap editing. It's OK for painting,
but excels at photo manipulation and composing bitmap artwork that contains
photos. Painter is not that great at photo editing, but is unbelievable for
creating original art from scratch.
