View Full Version : Corel Gallery Sucks

Have to vent here. I just threw Corel Gallery 1m images into the
garbage. What a PIECE OF SHIT. I would have expected more from a
company with their reputation.

First of all, the images are in their exotic format which hardly any
other viewer will open. Stubborn assholes!

Secondly, although all the images are arranged alphabetically in the
hardcopy catalogue, the images are scattered all over the disks with
no rhyme or reason.

Thirdly the search program is unbelievably clunky. Here's an example.
Let's say I want to use the image on page 1 of the catalogue with the
filename Aardvark. OK I open up Gallery and so a search for aardvark.
A message comes up telling me to insert Disk 9 and press retry. I do
that and up comes two images. I double click on the desired image and
-- shit-- it opens up not in a basic vector imaging progam (because
Gallery conveniently DOES NOT HAVE ONE!), but in Photohouse (another
piece of shit program) and wants to convert it into a bitmap (which I
do not).

OK so I forget about Photohouse and just r-click on convert. Good. I
can now covert it to, say a wmf file, and save it to a folder for use
later in every imaging/DTP program every made.

BUT... suppose I want to use the flouish on page 197 with the file
name Syde0041. What the freak keyword am I supposed to use? It's under
the subcategory medieval. So maybe if I enter that as the keyword, I
may find the image. No such luck. Of all the hundred or so generic
icons that appear, none is named syde0041. So what the f*** am I
supposed to do? Go through each CD disk and do a windows explorer
search??? Like I have the time.

This is the most user-unfriendly program I have yet to come across.
And the engineers that designed this f***in' POS were paid 100k. F***
corel. I'll never buy their shit again, EVER. You would think that
the outside of the box would have told you that the images are not in
"normal" aka universally recognizable format. But noooooooo. Guess I
got suckered in.

All our stations were gonna use CorelDraw this coming year for our
commercial work. Sorry Corel, you just lost $20k of my company's
business.

Well, I'd tell you more about this POS but I just got an error
message: "Corel Gallery has encountered a problem and needs to close.
We are sorry ... blah blah"

I'm outa here
