> We've got customer who wants a web forum application and we are thinking
of using one the GPL PHP applications running on Linux. What things can you "legally" charge for? I was thinking we could charge for: - Investigation (of the package) - Training - Ongoing hosting costs - Support of the system - Customization What about changes that we add to the PHP code to satisfy the customers requirements. Could we charge the customer for these, as long as we
released the code back to the public under the GPL licence?
As long as you include the code with any altered GPL software that you
release, I believe you can charge as little or as much as you want for it.
The GPL does not cover charging for your derivative work in any way, it just
demands that you make the source available and license your altered product
using the GPL (unaltered).
