ZAW has pretty well disappeard from MS's vocabulary, but I think it
lives today in features such as Intellimirror, Group Policy, and so on,
which are built into the server OS and automate configuration of desktop
machines. I've always felt that ZAW was a huge misnomer. It actually
requires a lot of administrative configuration and input, in an effort
to remove administrative tasks from users, so no one should assume that
Zero Administration Windows means admin tasks go away. By some measures,
they increase substantially.

SMS is a separate app that cannot be used to build a machine from
scratch, install the OS, etc. It is primarily used to patch machines,
automatically distribute and install new apps, etc.
