I am an engineer who supplied a customer with an original Norotn Systemworks
2003 CD.

I installed it on his latop in his presence-no problems. But,as you know, you
can install it on any number of other machines as there is no license number
to input.I assume this is illegal to do.

My problem is he installed it on his other PC when I left his premises. He
claims it ruined the software oh his machine, which cost him $600 to put
right.

My argument is that, because this 2nd install was illegal, any losses or
damage to his PC has nothing to do with me.

Am I correct? I've tried to get Symantec to confirm this, but they don't
wanna get involved.

does anyone know the legal wording on the Symantec license?I can't find
anything in the user manual for Systemworks.

Unless you instructed him to install it, I don't see what liability you
have, even if it was a legal install.

Check around on a computer on which it is installed for the EULA. Look
in the Systemsworks install directories. Sometimes you can find it in
the help file as well, or under help/about.

If the Eula says it can be installed on only one machine, then of course
you're covered. The customer would have had to click through the Eula
to install it, which means they knowingly (theoretically; probably
didn't read the Eula) violated the Eula.

It's possible that they have the right to install the product on both a
desktop and a portable used by the same customer. That changes the legal
situation but it still doesn't solve the stupid-customer situation.

Symantec should supply you with the Eula on request, as well. I don't
know why companies are so secretive about this.
