Hi All,

I have a test scenario where in my outlook express is customised to
incorporate couple of button, clicking which make a web service call
and inturn it displays a dynamic web page , on which the user can
further perform certain actions such as searching through the records
etc.
1) How do I record this particular scenario using Oultook express as
FE.Which protocol do I need to use to do this ?

2) since the user gets a webpage to carrying out different actions on
it, shall I omit the Outlook Interface and directly incorporate the
web service call in my loadruuner script and should i be using http
protocol for recording this scenario?

Please let me know if any of you can help me out with this. I will
appreciate it.

Thanks
Nilesh.

Using LR8 I would try the Web Services protocol and point it at the
executable for Outlook Express.

Thanks Dave. I am having LR7.8, when I use the Web services protocol
and point it to the Outlook exe,it gives me a messgae saying
"Insertion Failed" What could be the possible reason for such an error
message?

The Outlook Email client is a non-browser object so you have to drive
it from the desktop.

The eValid solution has the capability to do this -- to drive a desktop
element AND to observe/validate/analyze the resulting HTML page.

Because eValid is a self-contained IE-equivalent browser it will have
no trouble handling the dynamic web page that is returned from the web
service you are testing.

If you wish you can run multiple eValid browsers simultaneously --
even with the Outlook client -- to achieve very realistic loads that
to the web service server that are indistinguishable from real user
activity.

Complete technical details including EVAL download instructions are
available from http://www.e-valid.com.

I've looked up that error in the Knowledge Base and the Discussion Forum for
LoadRunner on the Mercury Support web site and can find nothing. I've not
used this protocol myself. I suggest that you raise a Support Request with
Mercury. Please provide feedback here when you get a response.

Dave.

This is a bit of an educated guess, but I reckon that LoadRunner is
trying to insert a hook into the Outlook process to record the API
calls but is not finding the expected version of a particular
component (DLL perhaps?) that it needs. Probably the classic 'upgrade
to the latest version' solution is required.

I shall post this to the support at mercury and keep you all posted as
