Acer,

Here is my opinion:

1) QB invariably comes out with a new version annually, usually on December
15th.

2) The new versions have an infinitesimally small number of new features,
usually something you really don't need.

3) The new versions run slower, have more bloated code, and bigger data
files.

4) You always have to reformat your data files.

5) The initial release is always buggy, requiring revisions during the year.
QB 2003 is on R7 now.

6) QB does not die on December 14th. The current version is still good. The
new version is not yet good on December 15. So why on earth do people
upgrade in December ?
Moo....Bah Bah ...Moo.... Moo.... Bah Bah....Moo.... (sound of barnyard
animals bleating while being led to slaughter....)

7) Never upgrade until at least February. Only idiots upgrade in December.

8) If you are stupid enough to upgrade in December, please come back here to
commiserate with other upgraders. It has become an annual ritual in this
newsgroup.

9) At that point, we will all chirp "we told you so", also part of the
ritual.

news:odadnT6QOpS4a8yiU-KYuA@comcast.com... Has anyone heard if there will be a QB2004 version coming out? If so, any ideas on how to get Intuit to release it in September or
October (or EARLY November, at the latest) instead of during the last few weeks of December? Every year, they release the next year's version in
mid-December right before the end of the calendar year. It's always a big mess. No
one can figure out exactly what the new version does, what the new story regarding Do-It-Yourself "Paytoll" is going to be, etc. And, like all new versions of software, there are always after-release glitches that are discovered by actual users and need to be fixed. All of this happens
while accountants and businesses are busy with year-end functions. So, why not release each new version 2 or 3 months before the calendar
year ends? Would that be too much for regular QuickBooks customers to expect from Intuit?

I understand your points.

Last year, we were QB99 hold-outs that were forced to upgrade to QB2003 (so
we could continue to use the payroll service). But, QB2003 didn't come out
until mid-December. In the meantime, Intuit kept sending cryptic notices
making it seem like everything would shut down on 12/31/02 unless we
upgraded. Thanks to this newsgroup, and a lot of effort on the part of
people who post here, we were finally able to sort out fact from fiction
(the Intuit salespeople were pushing a lot of fiction). We finally upgrade
to QB2003 in February simply because we had to. I just wish the new version
came out sooner so everyone could see how it really works, figure out what's
true and what's myth, and Intuit could fix some of the bugs before we were
forced to switch to the new version.
