View Full Version : Use CVS for one-editor-only on some files ?

Hi,

We would like to use CVS to host developement project which contains
generated files (such as Rationale Rose files) on which auto-merge
features cannot work.

Thus the only way to prevent nasty things to happen on those files is
to be sure only one developer is editing those file at any point in
time.

Basically we would like:
- Set some flag in CVS for this file xxxx.yyy
- Everybody get this file "read-only" (even though our checkout is read-write),
- One developer starts editing this file (gets it read-write)
- Other developers cannot start editing until he is done with it
- This developer "release" it to the repository

I though the "watch / edit / unedit" cycle could do that, but
although I've read carefully the CVS documentation I cannot get
it to work properly. Can someone have a similar experience and
tell me how he solved the problem ?

Thanks.
