is the one not asked"...
I created the pvcs project "mswin" and am attempting to add sub-projects
(com app's and gui app's) so that each application is a project under
"mswin". Somehow, due to a mistake made earlier (using mswin
inadvertantly) files are going into "mswin" instead of
"mswin\thisproject" . I have used source-safe for 2 years, and I cannot
find my way around PVCS based on what I would do in source safe. The only
thing I actually managed to check into "mswin\thisproject" was
"thisproject.dsw" All the other files continue to be placed into "mswin".
I have learned that deleting the files from "mswin" does not delete them
from the archive. Attempting to add files to source control results in the
message "..found file xxx in archive...re-connect to archive?".
I can put a totally new project into "mswin\newproject" easily. The
"newproject" is created and the files go in there. The problem seems to
be that I cannot correct for mistakes when setting up the project. Neither
VB nor VC (visual studio seem to allow me to fix an incorrect project
location.
If I put the files into the wrong place, it seems impossible to get them out
once the mistake has been made. I used that "import" function to get them
from the archive in "mswin" and put them into "mswin\thisproject" but visual
studio is somehow stuck using "mswin". ie: once I inadvertantely put stuff
into mswin, it seems impossible to remove them and the changes I make in
visual studio get put into mswin instead of mswin\thisproject. I then end
up with two sites of files, the one in mswin that are new and unwanted, and
the ones in mswin\thisproject that I imported but visual studio does not
want to update.
Our admin is working with me as we are both new to this. He managed to
convert all the source-safe stuff over to the new "pvcsproject" and has
offered to delete the original archives that are unwanted (there is no
project delete button on my client that I can find anywhere). However, I
suspect he does not want to have to deleted unwanted archives when the rest
of the staff here starts using pvcs. Currently, I am the only one sticking
out my neck.
