View Full Version : Limiting viewable VOBs in Clearcase dynamic views
When I create a dynamic view, I see in it all the VOBs I have mounted at
that time. Is there a way to create a dynamic view where I specify what
VOBs I see in it. (I work with several views and VOBs at once, and it
would be nice to not be confused by seeing all the vobs in every view)

Not really. You could use -none rules in the configspec for every VOB you
don't want to "see". You can't enter them anymore, but I'd guess you will
get warnings from some commands. Depends on what confuses more :-)

This is similar to Dirk's suggestion. In your config spec, list each
VOB you want viewable explicitly, but use a wildcard to disable access
to every other vob.
For example, if within your view for product1 you only want to see the
VOBs product1_src_vob and product1_include_vob, your config-spec might
look like (this is on a windows client):
element \product1_src_vob\... \main\LATEST
element \product1_include_vob\... \main\LATEST
element * -none

Brian,
You don't mention whether you're using UCM or not. If not, the others here
have already given you tips on editing the config spec.
If you *are* using UCM, then that won't work. I ended up writing a simple
Perl script which my developers use when they want to change views - they
select a project from a list, then it mounts the relevant VOBs and unmounts
the others.
I'm not aware of a tidier way of doing this, unfortunately.

Garry

Perhaps I don't understand the problem. This seems trivial. Just mount
the VOBs in each view that you want to see in that view.
To fix your current views, from the Rational ClearCase Explorer,
right-click on the view and select "Unmount...", then select the VOBs
you don't want to see and unmount them. With cleartool it'd be
something like: cd to the view directory and do a cleartool umount
vobname.
