Is it possible to install and run Clearcase on a computer (laptop) without
an ethernet card?
If yes, how to I get the ALBD server to start. It complains about not
finding the ethernet address.
Thanks for your help,
Frank.

Yes, as long as you run the license server and registry server on that
host, as well as the VOBs and views.

You mean IP address? You need to get a network set up, even if you
don't have a card to run it on.
You don't say what operating system you're running on. I don't know
anything about Windows (who knows, maybe you can't do it on Windows) but
if you're running a variant of UNIX on your laptop (most likely Linux)
then you would just add an entry for your hostname in the /etc/hosts
file; something like this should work:
127.0.0.1 localhost myhostname

The problem is the license server. Assuming this is Windows, the unique
hostid used for the license server is generated from the MAC address of
the network card. There may be a workaround, I don't know.

OK. Sorry, I can't help. This is easy to do on UNIX (UNIX more or less
always has networking on, at least the loopback, even if you don't have
a networking card installed) but I am not a Windows person.

I have ask Rational and they claim it can't be done with WinNT without at
least an ethernet card.
So I put in the ethernet card (I did manage to find one) without connecting
to any network, and ClearCase works.
Thank you for your efforts!
Frank.
