The Quicken NEar Match Bug has been reported here before. It was in
Quicken 2001 and lives in Quicken 2003 Premiere. In short, one
downloads mutual fund transactions from Vanguard or a similar
institution. Recent transactions are shown as "near matches" to a
transaction that was manually entered years ago. There is no way to
unmatch and accept the downloaded transaction as a new entry. The work
around is combersome and interferes with reconciling linked cash
accounts when the manually entered transaction was linked to a cash
transaction.
I wrote to Intuit, and complained to the BBB. In response to my BBB
complaint I received a phonecall from Staci Galloday of the Office of
the President. She insisted that Quicken was "Functioning as Designed"
and that the problem was in the transaction IDs. She refused to
consider any evidence from my experience and merely maintained she was
relying on advice from an experienced technician.
Boy I am I sorry I went with Quicken.
