Made original HD into a slave - detected by WinXP but unusable

My Western Digital 200GB WDC-WD2000BB EIDE HD failed -- I believe that
it's due to the on-board electronics, as there is no noise coming from
it and it's fairly new (4 months). It was the only drive on my PC. I
went out and picked up another Western Digital WDC-WD2000JB (same as
other drive but larger cache)drive and configured the jumpers to make
the new one the Master and the old one the Slave. When I reloaded Win
XP, the Master was fine -- but the Slave is not being properly
recognized by the OS. It is detecting the drive as it knows it's a
Western Digital WDC-WD2000BB, but it cannot read anything on it and it
is dhowing it my my Device Manager as a "Removable Dive". I tried to
re-scan but that didn't work. Any ideas?

Probably dead hard drive, or at least one that is not
spinning or has drive motor problems. The hard drive
is being detected since its electronics card is still
functioning.

If there is data that needs to be retrieved, try this:
With the HD parallel to a flat surface, slam it once on
to a mouse pad; this breaks any stiction (or "static"
friction) that might be binding the platter spindle. If
HD starts, jumper it as a slave drive and offload those
files. Keep as slave (reconfigure as an extended HD, if
needed) until next time it freezes. Return for warranty
replacement, if within the warranty period.

If drive does not start, get it replaced; 4 months is
within WD's warranty period.
