Hi all:
Have been using some version of Quicken since the DOS versions and have
noticed the later versions give me problems Exporting/Importing and wondered
if others have had the same experience.
Currently, running Q2003P on an XP Pro machine. I use the package to track
a small business using various pseudo Check Books for various items. Among
these pseudo CB's are a Cash Receipts Journal., a Sales Journal and a Cost
of Goods Sold Journal.
It is a cumbersome system, but CR's are a mixture of service revenue and
retail sales revenue. So, with the CR Jr. as the controlling CB, I Export
all transactions for a given date range and in turn Import these
transactions into the Sales Jr.
Then from the Sales Jr., I Export all retail sales for the same date range
out and Import only the retail sales into the COGS Jr. Then in this Jr., I
can assign the actual COGS for a given retail sale.
This used to work flawlessly for me on the DOS versions 3 and 5, and (I
think) the early version Quicken for Windows package. However, Q2002P and
Q2003P give me problems. Regardless of what date range I specify, Quicken
insists on Exporting/Importing ALL transactions back to DAY 1, which
encompasses a great deal of manual editing.
Other than manually copying transactions between CBs, the only work around
that I can think of is to set up a new File for each date range. Both of
these solutions are very cumbersome.
Is there some subtle difference between the newer Quicken packages and the
older versions that I am missing? ( I believe that I'm properly following
all of the Help File directions on this topic.) Has anyone else experienced
similar problems or have any suggestions as to how to get around this
problem?
TIA

I have Q2002 deluxe for Windows, US, and I previously used Q2001
and Q2000: I have never seen the problem you describe. I just
did a couple of tests to confirm that Q2002 exports the date
ranges I specify, and I did a search of the archives and could
not find your problem described there either (though I do not
claim that my search exhausted all possibilities).
Perhaps you have some corruption in your data; have you tried a
"validate"? Also, what happens if you create a "new" Quicken
data file and import some data from your old file into the new
one, then try to export/import a selected range of transactions?
Lastly, I agree your approach sounds very cumbersome; perhaps
others here could steer you to a more efficient method. If no
one suggests a viable alternative in this thread, perhaps you
could start a new thread whose purpose was to elicit such
responses. I am far from an expert in this area; but just to
get the ball rolling: have you looked into Quicken Home and
Business? Quickbooks? Do you absolutely require the same level
of detail in every account (journal); that is, would it suffice
to have the detail in one account and summary level transactions
in the other accounts?
