View Full Version : Quicken 2004 and following a stock
Upgraded to Quicken 2004 -- First-- Congrats on loading ---about 10 times
faster, than in 2003 version! But: tried to enter a stock that I wish to
track (BUT NOT IN MY PORTFOLIO (No position))!, and IT SHOWS both in my
watch list, and as a stock position in my portfolio! Have got around this
in the past, but EVERYTHING try,in this new version either leaves it in
portfolio (with 0 share balance!) , OR ELIMINATES it from my watch list
(deletes it! ) What I doing wrong??
Also had same problem when sold stock, but still wanted to track it in watch
list , just NOT IN PORTFOLIO! Jim
P.S., somehow, have written about 15-20 (over the years) .QDF files for
my finances on this computer , includeing backups . Know that the most
recent ones (the one driveing it, and the backup) are needed (one, other,
or both) but, will it hurt to delete those EXTRA files (suspect a few came
from trying out Money 2004( this bad enuff, that one, YUCK!) Thought Id
ask experts-- Jim

You can delete old Quicken data files, but deleting the QDF file
will not be enough. Quicken stores its data in several files
and if you don't want the backup from a certain date, you should
delete all the Quicken files for that date. If your main
Quicken data is stored in QDATA.QDF, you should look for all the
files whose name is QDATA.xxx (actually QDATA.Qxx is probably
more accurate) for the same date and delete them. The exact
number of such files differs depending on which version of
Quicken you use and which Quicken capabilities you have
utilized.

Just keep your offline copies and get rid of the extra copies on your hard disk.

Thanks, to both about Duplicate Files. The OTHER problem ( about tracking
stock, but NOT placeing in portfolio ) and the one reported bug (even when
tell it , dont report this again), keep getting the overwrite warning of the
SAME NAMED FILE (use second hard drive for backup's) That warning is
REDUNDANT, as this IS MY BACKUP FILE-- dont need to be renotified EVERY TIME
I backup-- it is EXPECTED , PLANNED, and not a problem!!
