View Full Version : SQLPlus and DSL interner connection in local usage
Hello,
Can anyone please tell me what "switch" should I put and were in
configuration files that SQLPlus would work locally in my PC?
Situation is following: I have a WinXP PC that is connected to Interned via
DSL-modem. When I start using SQLPlus and try to log in into it, SQLPlus
gives TNS listener not found errors. If I disconnect my PC from Internet
(disconnecting DSL) SQLPlus runs in my PC locally like I want it to run.
So, where to give that configuration information that tells SQLPlus that I'm
running it and Oracle DB locally?
Thanks,
Daniel Morgan

I'm sure many people would like to help you but you haven't provided
enough information for us to do more than shoot back questions.
1. What version of XP? Oracle is not certified on home though it
sometimes/often runs on it anyway.
2. What version and edition of Oracle?
3. Where is the Oracle database and what does DSL have to do with it?
4. Do yo have a DBA and if so why hasn't that person helped you?

Try unsetting TWO_TASK
I have newest version of both Windows XP and Oracle 9i (Personal Edition).
DSL internet connection should not have anything to do with
this problem. But it seems to be so that if you install Oracle in your
personal PC Oracle starts to look "something" from internet if you are
connected
into it.
For clearyfying this I'm not running Oracle in office now, I'm running
it at home to test some SQL scripts.
Do yo have a DBA and if so why hasn't that person helped you?
Haven't hired a DBA for home ;)
I have another PC here home too running SQL Server. It's also connected to
internet and I have no problem running it locally in my PC.

By the way, why threre is a Personal Edition if it does not work properly
if your PC is connected to internet ...
There has to be some configuration information somewhere which tells Oracle
to run locally (e.g. localhost, 127.0.0.1) not using or echoing everything
to internet.

Please do not cross and multipost. You are wasting bandwith and
people's time.

I'll spell it out ... XP Home or XP Professional? I'm guessing Home and
Home is not supported. It works most of the time but not always.

Post a copy of your SQLNET.ORA an TNSNAMES.ORA that is likely where the
problem is.

Hello again!
I have Windows XP Pro version.
Here are my *.ora files. I did not find anything amazing there
but after couple of installations the problem still exists :(
Could this be a listener problem?

SQL*Net is NOT required to access an Oracle database
if you are logged onto the database server system.
All that is required is that ORACLE_SID & ORACLE_HOME
contain the "correct" values for your installation.

Interesting ... I was expecting reference to the domain provider.
I'm open to suggestions from others. Seems like the DSL is not
part of the problem.
