View Full Version : Dump compatibility - using EXP / IMP

News

Hello,

I use Oracle V9 and made a dump file using the EXP command.
I can't import this dump in an Oracle V8 application (of course).
Is there a way, or any tool to specify which version of Oracle i'd like the
dump to be compatible with ?
(a dump converter or something to edit the version of dump file...).

Thanks,
Laurent.

AFAIK, the only way to make a compatible DMP is to use the EXP utility for the Target version ( where you will use IMP) to
create it.

Of course one (or more ?) dll is required. I fear it won't work even if I
install this (these) dll...

Has anyone already tried ?
Thanks,
Laurent.

I've tried it and it works just fine. I copied the exp.exe from the
oracle_home\bin dir from a 8.0.5 database to a server with a 8.1.7.
Renamed it to exp805.exe and executed it to make a dumpfile. The dump
could then be read with the imp from the 8.0.5 database. Never tried
it with a 9i, but I would suspect it's the same...
