I bought a SUN Ultra 2 Enterprise 297MHz, 1GB RAM from ebay. Booted u
no problem. Took computer apart to see how it goes together. Cleane
out what little dust it had. Looked pretty clean.
Boots up to the "Initializing Memory". Once finished the line is blan
with no "ok" prompt. Took out all the memmory and tested it on
working system at work. Memmory is good. Put in a good workin
harddrive from work. Still no "ok" prompt.
Tried using "Stop and A" on bootup before "Initializing Memory" and
got the "ok" prompt. Typed in "set-defaults" pressed enter and got
"VRAM" message. Then I typed in "reset-all" system reboots but hang
after the "initializing memory" still no "ok" prompt.
Is it the motherboard? Should I sell the good parts back to ebay?
need help. I am trying to teach myself Sun PC's and Solaris

Sun Ultras are not Oracle products. Reask your question at:
comp.unix.solaris.

I agree with Daniel - there are several good NGs under comp.sys.sun that can
answer your question.
I ran into a similar thing when I opened my Ultra5 a few years back.
Acccording to a buddy who used to work at Sun, apparently (at least on
mine) after opening the case there is a "magic something" in the NVRAM that
wants to be reset. Internal timer sits at the blank blinking cursor for 15
minutes before that reset occurs unless you know the voodoo incantation to
start it earlier. (Whether BS or not, I finally turned it on overnight and
it did come back on it's own.)
