View Full Version : Question about Building Reports

Hi -
I'm an end user of an Oracle database containing publication
information. I need to take the raw data and create a report using the
standard bibliographic format, i.e.;
Gao, Michael E., Peter L. Fromm, and Paul Guille. "Observations from
Space"
Astrophysical Journal, (48#1), pp. 432-444, 2 Feb 2004
I would like to only bold certain people who fit a criteria, and I would
like to italize the Journal name. I also need to insert the punctuation
since the data is not stored with the quotes, periods or commas. The
data is stored in two tables, one contains the authors names, the other
contains everything else. They are linked through a unique number
identifier.
My DBA has tried to give me this information using Report Builder, but
he is unable to bold, italize, and insert the punctuation. The report
he gives me is also broken into chunks, and I have to use MS Word to
piece it back together. It is very time consuming! I would think that
Oracle has some tool available that can take data from the tables and
print them with added punctuation, bolding, etc.
Anyway help in this matter would be greatly appreciated!

Regarding to bold, italic, etc., I remembered Oracle Reports
has some package starts with SRW. I don't have the tool
with me right now, but, thought that it was SRW.SET_ATTR,
SRW.ATTR.MASK.
You might want to look for the online help with these keywords.
Hope this help.

Christine,
I am working my way through Oracle's excellent "Building Reports" which you
can download from the following location:
http://otn.oracle.com/documentation/reports.html
I've just started on "Part II, Building Group Reports" and it is extremely
easy to work through.
Good luck,
Ian
