Hi,

I've got a question regarding report builder: I've got various
independent fields (placeholder columns, no repeating frames) on my
report, and it looks great in preview mode. But when I generate a
pdf-file, some of the fields are not on one line anymore (being below
or above it), and generally the layout has changed slightly. I have
tried to tackle the problem by grouping the fields in frames, which
has helped a lot, but still there are some nasty fields. Can someone
explain to me the mechanism of oracle report's layout engine? Can
anyone give me hints on how to improve the situation?

thanks a lot,
stephan

Stephan,

the "layout engine" is the Layout Editor of Report Developer,
where You make all visual arrangements.
The items are then shown
due to their properties (use the Property Palette)

Did You create the Layout by the Layout Wizard or is it hand-made ?
If Your report is as simple as You indicate (no groups), it could by
sufficient to use the Wizards for Report creation.

If You worry about alignment, there is a grid
to which the fields can be arranged or reshaped.
And there are some alignment buttons
in the Layout Editor available when You
multi-click some fields.

Does the print show the same layout quirks as the PDF ?

just my 2c,
Jan
