I have an HP Deskjet 695C from 1999. Recently when I tried to print anything it
would make a loud sound and a message would appear on my Windows ME home
computer that the cartridge was stuck and suggested I look for a paper jam.
Well there is no paper jam. I suspect it is a hardware problem. The cartridge
cradle that holds the two ink cartridges refused to move. I tried forcing it to
move with my hands but it was locked in tight. This might be by design when the
printer is not in use. It was in the resting position as far right as possible.
I took the printer apart just enough to free it. There is a white plastic
interlocking piece that is located below the cartridge cradle. This white
plastic piece is motorized and moves up and down to grab and release the
cartridge cradle. I am afraid that little motor is near the end of its life.
Since I freed it manually it continues to make the loud noise, but does not lock
up and will print the output as expected. Do you have any experience with this
kind of problem? Is there a good fix available or will I need to buy a new
printer soon? If I permanently removed the white plastic interlocking piece
would there be any side effects?
Thanks, Michael
