I am trying to find out how to remove the HPCMPMGR.EXE from my W2K system.
For the past several weeks, my PC will not shut down normally because of
hpcmpmgr and I am also noticing other strange behavior that started at the
same time. I believe the hpcmpmgr is somehow related to automatically
checking for software drive updates, but there is no info on how to
uninstall it on HP's site. Has anyone else figured out how to uninstall
this file correctly?

Here's what to do:

1. Click Start and Run.

2. Type MSCONFIG and press Enter.

3. Click the Startup tab.

4. Clear the checkboxes for hpcmpmgr.exe.

5. Click OK.

6. Restart the system.

The above steps will not uninstall the file. It simply prevents it from running
when the system starts up... Ben Myers
