SIMM Modules

Hello,

I have here a module "C3152-60002", of which a bit of googling tells me
it is a "5P/MP PS LVL 2 SIMM MOD"

I also have a "C2037-60002" which according to some webshops that google
directs me to, is a fuser unit. I have opened a laserprinter before, but
I thought fuser units do not come in SIMM form factors. Does anyone have
a clue what this could be.

A third module doesn't have a Cnnnn-nnnnn code on it, but has a sticker
with the text
Fix PCL5 + Logos
LJ5 SIMM Module
on it.

I tried the postscipt module in my LaserJet 5P, but that doesn't give a
working result. I heard there was a minimum memory requirement for that.
The other modules don't work either.

If I know what these modules are and what they are worth, I might be
persuaded to part with them.

Alex,

First, LaserJet PostScript SIMMs are designed to work in only one specific base
model of printer. A PostScript module for the LJ 4 works only in the LJ4 or
LJ4M. A module designed for the LJ4+ works only in the LJ4+ or LJ4M+. They do
not work in any other models.

If the marking "5P/MP PS LVL 2 SIMM MOD" is correct, it is a PostScript module
for ONLY the LJ 5P or the LJ 5MP. The 5MP is simply a 5P with PostScript.
Check the specs to see how much memory is required to use the 5P as a PostScript
printer. I am sure that there is some minimum.

You are absolutely right. Fusers are not SIMMs. The "C2037-60002" part is
probably mis-marked. Any other stickers or other identification on the part?

I have no clue about the third module.

Parts for LJ4 and LJ5 printers are not worth tons of money any more. The LJ4
models of printers are about 10 years old now, and the LJ5's are a couple of
years newer. Street price on an absolutely pristine LJ5 with low page count is
rarely more than $150 lately. The good news is that these printers are well
made, better than the cheap plastic that passes for an entry-level laser printer
sold new in stores... Ben Myers

Search on eBay "C3152" and you find several, $15-$20

You need at least 1 MB of RAM above the base level to use this.

type you need. I'd get at least 8 MB.

Stick it in. Maybe it's RAM, especially if it came with the PS SIMM.

This could be a custom SIMM with fonts (PCL5) and/or logos.
Have a look at the test page and see if any mysterious fonts are
listed. (This should also tell you how much RAM you have.)

It's an amazing bargain to upgrade your printer to PS. When I think of
the years I dreamed of having one.... so spend $10 and get some RAM,
change the drivers to PS, and sneer at lowly PCL.
