View Full Version : Merging Accounts
While setting up Quicken to download my account information from Vanguard I
ran into the following problem.
Vanguard uses one account number for my three IRA accounts. Each account
holds one mutual fund. I have always kept the three mutual funds in
separate accounts in Quicken. When I download the Vanguard information it
all goes into one of the three accounts.
So I think I should merge my three Quicken accounts into the one account
Vanguard wants to download to. I've been reading the Quicken help on how to
merge accounts and it is not very clear to me.
An I on the right track here. Do any of you know how to merge three
accounts into one account? Thanks in advance.

Yes, I think you are on the right track. I am fairly sure that
Q2003 has a "transfer shares" capability (like Q2002 in
substance, if not in form).
In Q2002 deluxe for Windows, US (in the register of the "from"
account):
Easy Actions > Advanced > Transfer shares between accounts
Once you specify the security, number of shares, and account to
transfer to, you can choose which lots to transfer (all in your
case). Basically, you get one ShrsOut transaction for each
security (in the "from" account), and one ShrsIn for each lot of
each security (in the "to" account).
[You can do something very similar from the Portfolio screen,
but there you can name both the "from" account and the "to"
account.]
