View Full Version : HP Pavilion 7935 - how to take out the ~!@% CD drive?

I have a 3-years old HP Pavilion 7935. Everything works except for
the CD-RW drive. The drive was always finicky to begin with
(requiring that I restart the computer every time I burned a CD), so
when it finally died last month (it refused to read any CD in the
drive), I figured it's no loss.
I bought a CD-RW drive from Asus, and I thought I could just pop out
the old piece of crap and pop in the new drive. But I can't. I can't
get the old Cd-RW drive to slide out through the front of the PC (as
the diagram in the HP manual says). This model has black plastic
"cover" (I don't know what else to call it) over the front of the PC.
I contacted HP Customer Service via email, and they helpfully emailed
me the very same diagram from the manual. I've replaced CD drives
before, but those PCs didn't have this ~@$#^% cover.
If you own this particular HP model--how did _you_ replace the drive?
Any help will be much appreciated.
