There is a light area about an inch and a half wide from the left to
the right side of the page (letter size). Text is still readable, but
noticeably lighter than on the rest of the page. I can alleviate the
problem slightly by increasing the toner density, but this is not a
complete solution, and is wasteful of toner as well.
Note that this is not a problem with anything that has a roller, as it
is not a repetitive defect. It is something in the paper path.
This problem first appeared at about 1.1 million impressions. I always
install a new maintenance kit every 400,000 impressions, so at 1.2
million I installed a new fuser and transfer roller. This did nothing
to change the problem. Since the problem first appeared I have been
through about six toner cartridges, and there has been no change in
the problem, so clearly it is not in the cartridge.
I have a service manual on CD (the kind you get on eBay, of
questionable parentage). It has an image defect section, but nothing
addresses this issue.
Any ideas?
