LCD screen disables mouse and keyboard???

I got an old Samsung SyncMaster 570B TFT flat-screen from work. I replaced
my old Nokia 446Xpro with that one, using the standard monitor cable. Before
I brought this flat-screen home I tested it at work and everything worked
fine (using my laptop).

After the switch at home (in my HP Vectra, running on win XP), the mouse and
keyboard were disabled, i.e. like they are not connected at all. If I boot
the pc, I got errors 0106-54 (mouse error) and 0103-AE (keyboard error).

The soonest I switch the Nokia back I got mouse and keyboard back again. If
Nokia is connected and I just switch the cable without turning the computer
off, I still have the same problem Once the Samsung is connected, mouse and
keyboard are dead. If I just plug Nokia back on, mouse and keyboard are back
again.

I've tried with Samsung drivers that are for win 95/98/Me and 2000 but
either of those didn't help.

I'm really hopeless with this, computer re-sellers were as stunned of this
as myself so I really appreciate all the help you can provide.

First: it is not smart to switch monitors on a running system. It
may hurt both the monitor and your Video card.
I've tried with Samsung drivers that are for win 95/98/Me and 2000 buteither of those didn't help.

Try to set your video mode back to 640 x 480, using the default
VGA driver.

I trust, that you are not using an USB mouse and keyboard that
are in some way dependant on your Nokia for power :-) ???

No, it is sure not. At this point I was so annoyed of the problem that I
couldn't care less. Luckily it seems that I haven't broken anything :)

Tried that, tried also to update Matrox drivers to the newest available, no
help.

Nope, ps/2, both.

It seems that my only hope at this point is to try with USB mouse and
keyboard if those for some reason works with the Samsung....

What happens if you start your PC with the monitor connected but
powered down ?
(And then switch it on when the PC has booted, of course.)

Other possibility: Bios configuration.
Do you have an IRQ enabled for the VGA and have you tried
switching it ?

Bit puzzled here. Under Windows 98 you can instruct Windows what
monitor to expect. Or to use Plug and Play detection.
And you would be able to select LCD monitor in the given
resolution.

Under Display Properties Settings Advanced Monitor in Windows XP
I can see 'default monitor' only. But maybe someone can instruct
you how to change it to something else ?

I used Nokia to use the keyboard to boot and after the pc started to boot, I
switched the cable to LCD with power off on that. After a while I turned it
on with Windows logon screen, mouse and keyboard were disabled (pc made that
beeping sound when booted that it makes when there are errors). I switched
cable back to Nokia but mouse and keyboard were still disabled, after a
reboot I got mouse and keyboard working again.
Other possibility: Bios configuration. Do you have an IRQ enabled for the VGA and have you tried switching it ?

I've been checking BIOS but unfortunately I haven't found any such settings
There is a list of IRQs and all of them are enabled. The only option there
is for VGA is to whether use AGP or PCI, tried both. I also changed mouse
ps/2 detection from "Auto" to "Enabled" but that didn't help either. -- Kind regards, Gerard Bok
