I bought my daughter a used Thinkpad 600e. Her boyfriend put in a startup
password. Naturally they broke up and now we cant boot her laptop. what is
the workaround or do we have to buy a new hard drive. Powerup& F1 do
nothing.

According to the IBM website you need to get a new MB and Hard Disk ?

Tell her ex-boyfriend to give you the password or you will sue him for
the cost of getting it made usable. Mention 'criminal damage' and check if
your local law enforcement are interested.
