I am trying to upgrage the BIOS on a HP Pavilion 8624 (Motherboard: ASUS
MEW-AM Rev2.01),
but get the following error when flashing the ROM from DOS:
"File does not contain the same BIOS part number"
I am using the latest BIOS upgrade (v2.10) from the HP web site.
Why am I getting this error?
Thanks

If a BIOS flasher program is written properly, it makes sure that the wrong BIOS
is not flashed onto the motherboard. The wrong BIOS could render a board
useless.
One remotely possible cause of the error message could be that the motherboard
has a jumper set to protect the flash BIOS from being written. Unlikely, and,
if the case, a terribly misleading error message from the BIOS flasher.
There may well have been some subtle changes in motherboard model, hence the
different part number. Of course, given the overall low quality of HP
post-sales tech support, someone could also have screwed up either the BIOS
flash program or the BIOS image. But don't count on it. Play it safe. Leave
the current BIOS alone... Ben Myers

I would like to upgrade the BIOS as the system is hanging after a clean
install of WinXP.
Is this more likely to be a BIOS or RAM associated issue?

This is more likely a memory issue... Ben Myers
