View Full Version : Double reset of PC

Each time I power on my PC or press the reset button, two resets are
performed.
I can tell by the sound of the CD-ROM units ( they make a click sound
on each reset ).
When I reset by pressing ctrl-alt-del or choosing "Restart" in
windows, then a normal "single" reset is done.

This double reset concerns me, especially because at power on, I hear
the disk drive to perform that rapid head movement ( calibration ? ),
then it suddenly stops ( when the second reset happens ) and then does
it again.

I also tried another stonger power supply ( actually I connected half
of the system to the old PS and half ( mostly the IDE devices ) to
another one). It was the same, so I believe this is not a PS related
problem.

The MB is GigaByte GA-7VAXP Ultra ( VIA KT400 ... see
http://tw.giga-byte.com/MotherBoard/Products/Products_GA-7VAXP%20Ultra.htm
)

What can I do to get rid of this problem ?

Regards,
David

Why do you think it is a problem?
I suspect you are hearing the hardware recalibrate at the end of POST and the
recalibrate from the boot process. You don't get a hardware recalibrate with C
A D or "restart".

I might stress unneccessarily the HD.
It does not happen on other PCs.
It did not happen on my PC a few weeks ago. ( No, I don't know what
caused this to change ).
