View Full Version : Keyboard Freeze/Lock-Out

This has happened a few times now.
At some point, I will realize that the keyboard is frozen--that is,
pressing any key will do nothing (the Num Lock/Caps Lock/Scoll Lock
statii [including status lights] will remain the same, no matter if
you press the key or not)...not even the ultimate "Alt-Ctrl-Del"
command does anything--just like it was unplugged, yet the mouse works
fine!
It doesn't appear to be Windows related, as logging off user and even
restarting in MS-Dos doesn't unlock it--you have to close down and
reboot from scratch: The "Num Lock/Caps Lock/Scoll Lock" status
lights flash like usual, and everything works fine.
Does this sound like some non-Windows software/registry-type bug or a
deeper hardware problem?

For me, it was bad news; motherboard trouble. Mine would freeze
sometimes whiles system was starting up. Sometimes before Windows
loaded, sometimes after. Also, had trouble turning on. Push ON button,
HD lite goes on, nothing happens. Had to push reset a few times till
it started ( only to have the keyboard freeze and have to re-start all
over again).
