View Full Version : NEC ND-2500A DVD burner bitsetting capable? Benq DW800A 8X disk compatability?
I see that the NEC ND-2500A DVD burner has hit the shelves. Does 8X DVD+/-R
and 4X DVD+/-RW. very impressive. Anyone know if this unit offers
compatibility bitsetting with +R and +RW? Sure is a nice feature to assure
compatibility with my DVD set-top players (Panasonics that want nothing to
do with +R/+RW.) As I recall the old 1300A model either supported bitsetting
or always set the "book" on +R/+RW disks to DVD-ROM which pretty much all
set-top players can read then.
Was about to get the Benq DW800A which has bitsetting, but only supports the
"+" formats. Their web site is mute on the subject of compatible disks,
though. And they did not reply to my e-mail asking about that. So a little
worrisome. The NU flavor of the drive supposedly only does 8x with "real" 8X
disks which is no fun at all.

The NEC 1300 does NOT support bitsetting out of the box, nor does it
set the booktype as DVD-ROM. You will need to get the hacked flashware
from Herrie to enable these functions.
